South Fremantle Festival of Lights - 8 November 2020

What a privilege it was to work with the South Fremantle Community Association (SFCA) who brought the South Fremantle Festival of Lights to South Fremantle.

The purpose of the South Fremantle Community Association (SFCA) is the coming together of a diverse local community to celebrate festivals and events, to support each other through online communication, to learn from each other, to inspire each other, to feel a sense of fellowship, safety and belonging together.

We knew the business community was suffering the worst economic downturn in years due to the Covid-19 government restrictions.

I approached Sid from Saroor and we tossed around the Indian Diwali Festival over a drink.

We wanted to do our version of Diwali and the South Fremantle Festival of Lights was born.

Within 7 weeks the the hard working SFCA and other talented locals swung into action.

The South Tce businesses made a financial contribution - SBH, Saroor, Sealanes, La Cabana, Madelena, Running with Thieves, Run aMuk, Twisted Tulip, South Beach Fish & Chips, Third Wheel and Little Loaf.

Over 25,000 people came to the Festival of Lights and the event was family and pet friendly with over 60% of participants coming from north of the river. We had over 100 performers who sang, danced and performed throughout the day and evening. A magnificent diverse and inclusive community event that will be held again this year on the 7 November 21.
